Essay writing is a major part of your academics, and it is important for you to know your essay structure. You will be more in command of your essay structure the higher in your academics that you go. Usually, you are accustomed to writing the 5-paragraph essay that tailors the essay structure for you and allows you the freedom to concentrate on other parts of your writing such as the critical analysis, argumentation, and presenting the information.

The essay writing service might help you structure your essay better in the higher academic essays but s/he might not succeed to reach upon the optimum structure due to the lack of familiarity with the essay content and the style. The essay writer should him/herself try to structure the essay in accordance with the content and the style of the writing.

Break-free of the 5-paragraphs essay

When you move beyond high school essay writing you are bound to break free of the 5 essays rigid structure. This structure using which you have been trained to write the essay doesn’t allow you to discuss every part or every aspect of the topic at hand. The limited number of paragraphs only cater to some of the salient points while the remainder of the points remains neglected.

To take on a complex subject and present complex analysis you should get yourself free of the 5-paragraph essay structure and fashion your paragraphs according to the need for your essay argument or points.

The salient feature of the essay structure

Despite how you want to shape your essay there are always parts of the structures that remain the same. These parts are important for the readers to make sense of the essay and to assist them in reading it.

Some of the main parts of the essay introduction are:

  • Essay hook: This is a line, a quote, a stat, or a question that intrigues the reader into reading the essay.
  • Thesis statement: The thesis statement includes the main argument or points that you are trying to prove or show in the essay.
  • Background information: It is best to provide context to the topic at hand. If the topic is complex and wide then it is best to have the background information in a separate paragraph after the introduction paragraph.

The main body of the essay has various paragraphs and the main paragraphs have the following parts in them:

  • Topic sentence: This tells the reader what the paragraph is about. While reading the topic sentence the reader should know what the paragraph of a set of paragraphs is going to discuss.
  • Context: It is important to give a bit of information or expand upon the point that is being discussed.
  • Evidence and examples: The supporting information is important to back your arguments or ideas up, otherwise they are just opinions.
  • Analysis and evaluation: Here you discuss why the evidence and examples work to support the points.
  • Counterpoints and counter-arguments: It is your responsibility as the essay writer to keep in mind the counters to your arguments and points. These counters should be taken into account and addressed and not at all pulled under the rug.
  • Connecting it back to the thesis: It is important at the end of the discussion to remind the reader how it connects to the main thesis.

The conclusion of the essay has only two parts:

  • Reiterating the main points in light of the main thesis statement: You should tell your reader that you have accomplished what you aimed at doing.
  • Call for action: This can be a call to do further research on the topic or a call to consider various aspects of the essay and think about or apply them.
